A woman accused of facilitating terrorist activities to stand trial

The Main Investigative Department over the North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of Russia in cooperation with a unit of the Federal Security Service of Russia and the Counter-Extremism Centre of the Stavropol Regional Main Department of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs of Russia finished investigation of a probe into Ludmila Baratova. She is accused of committing an offense under Part 5 of Article 33, Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (assistance in persuading a person to commit a crime under Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Russia, providing the means of committing a crime and removing obstacles).

According to investigation, not later than in the middle of 2014 Baratova agreed to assist her acquaintance, being an active participant of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (banned in Russia), in involving of other persons in participation in the illegal armed formation. Thus, the accused provided help in purchase of tickets and crossing the border of the Russian Federation to members of the family and the man who subsequently joined the illegal armed formation in the Syrian Arab Republic and took part in its illegal activities.

The investigation gathered enough evidence, therefore, the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to the Southern District Military Court to be tried on the merits.
