In Kamchatka, investigation of a probe into the accident with AN-26 aircraft continues

The Far Eastern Transport Investigations Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues investigation of a probe launched under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Russia.

To remind, on July 6, 2021 an AN-26 plane with tail number RA-26085 belonging to Kamchatskoe Aviapredpriyatie JSC following the route Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky-Palana and carrying 22 passengers and 6 crew members didn't land in the destination airport. According to preliminary information, the wreckage of the aircraft was found north of the Palana airfield in a hard-to-reach area as a result of search activities.

Representatives of the Main Forensics Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, investigators of the Far Eastern Transport Investigations Department, forensic medical experts and representatives of the Interstate Aviation Committee departed from Palana to inspect the accident scene.

Part of the investigation team is based in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky: they are studying personal files of the aircraft crew members, aircraft documentation, and other documents; a chemical forensic examination has been assigned for the fuel samples seized from the tanker and the tank. Witnesses including aircraft technicians, employees of the refueling complex and dispatchers have been questioned, questioning of witnesses continues. All versions under the criminal case are being worked out in detail.

At present, search activities are continuing, the investigation has received information about the discovery of bodies at the crash site, identification of which will be carried out during the investigation.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
