A resident of Orenburg Region sentenced for rehabilitation of Nazism

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found by court to be sufficient to impose a sentence over Orsk resident Andrey Akimov. He was found guilty of committing an offense under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (rehabilitation of Nazism using telecommunication networks including the Internet).

The investigation and the court found that not later than April 28, 2021, Andrey Akimov, using an application from one of the social networks, sent to the Memory Bank website an application form with a photo of Nazi Germany's leader Adolf Hitler for its subsequent broadcast in the campaign "Immortal Regiment online" in one row with veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers.

As part of the criminal case, a portrait forensic examination was conducted, computer equipment was inspected, and witnesses were questioned, including representatives of the scientific community, historians, archivists, and representatives of public organizations. The results of the investigative actions and examinations confirmed the involvement of the defendant in the crime. Under the weight of the collected evidence, the accused himself fully confessed and repented.

The court sentenced Akimov to 1 year of correctional work.

It should be noted that taking into account the changes made in April of this year in the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation providing for responsibility for rehabilitation of Nazism the punishment for such actions can now be up to 5 years of imprisonment.
