In Karelia, investigators are working on site of discovery of remains of the Great Patriotic War times

In the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues investigation of a probe into genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union by the Nazi invaders and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War of 1941 - 1945 in the territory of the Karelian-Finnish SSR.

On August 4 of this year the representatives of search group "Olonetskaya operative group" found a mass grave of the Soviet citizens who supposedly became victims of fascists accomplices during the Great Patriotic War in the settlement of Ilyinsky of the Republic of Karelia. It was discovered thanks to the local residents, who knew about the tragic events from the memories of eyewitnesses.

Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia arrived to Ilyinsky settlement to examine the discovered burial site. At present, investigative actions are being carried out at the excavation site. A preliminary assessment of the scene reveals the remains of civilians with signs of violent death.

All recovered remains will be sent for the necessary examinations to establish the exact number of people to whom they belong, as well as the causes and circumstances of their deaths.

In addition, investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia will study the declassified archival materials received from the Department of the Federal Security Service for the Republic of Karelia, which suggest that during the Great Patriotic War occupation camps for civilians were located in the territory where the remains were found.
