The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed the direction of the regional investigative department to report on intermediate results of investigation of a probe into death of a child hit by a car in Voronezh. Previously the Voronezh Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of road safety rules entailing by negligence death of a person).

According to the investigation, on the evening of August 8, 2021, on the beach of the Voronezh river bank, located near the F.E. Dzerzhinsky sanatorium, a parked car suddenly started moving, knocking down a 10-month-old boy. The child had died at the scene of the inflicted injuries. On suspicion of committing this crime, a 32-year-old local resident was detained, who was indicated by the father of the deceased child as a person who was possibly driving a car at the time of the incident. At present, investigative actions continue to be carried out, a complex of examinations has been appointed, eyewitnesses and witnesses of the incident are being established. Investigators also need to check other versions of what happened, including those voiced in the media and social networks, and establish the reasons that preceded the tragedy.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed the Central Office of the Committee to supervise the process and the results of this probe.
