The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia requests a report on progress of investigation of a probe into crash of MI-8 helicopter

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Eastern Interregional Transport Investigations Department to report on the progress of investigation of a probe into MI-8 helicopter crash in Kamchatka Territory launched under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of rules for safe operation of air transport entailing by negligence death of two or more people).

On August 12, 2021 at about 10 AM local time, the MI-8 helicopter carrying out commercial air transportation on the route from the airport of the village. Nikolaevka, Yelizovsky District, Kamchatka Territory - Kurilskoye Lake, Kamchatka Territory crashed. A helicopter fell into the waters of Lake Kurilskoe in Kamchatka Territory. In terms of investigation of the probe the investigative authorities have seized samples of fuel on the landing pad, have appointed a forensic chemical examination; the witnesses to the incident are being questioned, an investigative team has left for the scene to conduct an inspection, a set of investigative and procedural actions aimed at establishing the circumstances of the incident are underway.

Upon instruction of Alexander Bastrykin the results of investigation of the probe are to be supervised by the Central Office of the Committee.
