According to investigators, on August 17, 2021 employees of one of the fire and rescue units of the Main Directorate of Emergencies of Russia in the Republic of Bashkortostan pulled out a metal barrel while extinguishing a fire in a garage located in the village of Akyar. After extinguishing the fire the barrel was left outside unattended. In the evening of the same day two 6-year-old children while playing set fire to the barrel, as a result the flammable substance inside it caught fire and the children received thermal burns of 90% and 50% of their body surface, after which they were hospitalized. Six days later the child died in hospital with 90% burns of his body surface. According to preliminary data, the barrel contained carbide.
