A sentence imposed for public calls for terrorist activities

The evidence collected by the Main Investigations Directorate over North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found sufficient by the court to sentence Ikbolzhon Shamshidinov. He was found guilty of committing offenses under Part 2 of Article 205.2 and Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (public calls to carry out terrorist activities and public justification of terrorism, as well as inducement of persons to participate in the activities of an international terrorist organization).

The investigation and the court found that Shamshidinov was in Stavropol from April 16, 2019 to January 29, 2020 and was a follower of radical currents of Islam. He expressed solidarity with terrorists fighting within international terrorist organizations, knowing full well that these organizations are recognized as terrorist and their activities are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation.

In order to form a belief in the attractiveness of terrorist ideology among an undetermined number of people, using his cell phone, the accused posted on social networks a number of video files justifying and propagandizing terrorism. He also gave users of these Internet resources free access to these files and the ability to use them. In addition, Shamshidinov, through persuasion and suggestions, including the use of the Internet, induced his acquaintances to participate in the activities of international terrorist organizations.

The court sentenced Shamshidinov to 10 years' imprisonment with the first two years to be served in prison and the rest in a strict regime colony with a ban on the use of the Internet for 4 years.
