The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia requests a report on unsolved crimes

Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, instructed the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia to analyze the available data on unsolved grave and especially grave crimes throughout Russia falling under the jurisdiction of the agency. Such acts represent a high public danger and their disclosure is one of the priority objectives of the department.

The Chairman of Investigative Committee of Russia at operational meetings has already drawn attention of heads of investigative bodies in the regions to the need to ensure the most thorough approach to their investigations. Investigation of such crimes is directly linked to the implementation of the principle of inevitability of punishment for the offences committed. However, as the practice of some regions shows, to this day long delays in the investigation of such crimes are due to poor organization of the investigative and forensic work on the ground, the lack of initiative, due interaction with the bodies involved in operational and investigative activities, and sometimes ignoring the information received from citizens.

The Chairman demanded to present the corresponding report within a week. It should include criminal cases, both pending and suspended, including those for which the statute of limitations has expired, as well as information about ongoing and planned investigative actions and operational-search activities in these cases. Based on the results of the study of the report, the central apparatus of the Investigative Committee of Russia will work on possible measures aimed at improving the organization of the work of investigative agencies in the detection of grave and especially grave crimes.
