Investigation of a probe into murder committed in the centre of St. Petersburg and a number of swindling episodes completed
The St. Petersburg Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia finished investigation of a probe into a 43-year-old Zaur Karimov and 6 persons accused, depending on the role of each, of committing offenses under Part 1 of Article 105, Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder, swindling).
According to investigators, a local resident born in 1996 handed over money to the accused, who imitated the activities of a commercial structure located on Nevsky Prospect, to provide employment services and registration of medical certificates. Not having received these documents, on June 4, 2020, he asked the defendants for a refund. In the course of the conflict, Karimov, based on sudden personal animosity, shot the man in the head with a traumatic gun in order to kill him, after which he fled the scene. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition and died on June 13, 2020.
Moreover, from March to June 2020 Karimov together with 6 other accomplices fraudulently stole money from 60 victims to the total amount of over 150 thousand rubles under the pretext of providing employment services and registration of medical certificates.
The probe amounted to 35 volumes. The investigation included a number of forensic examinations, including handwriting examination that covered over 200 documents.
The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin put the progress of investigation under supervision of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The investigators collected enough evidence for the criminal case to be transferred for approval of an indictment and subsequent referral to court.
At the same time, the necessary investigative and search activities aimed at establishing the whereabouts of four wanted accomplices of the accused and bringing them to criminal responsibility continue.
