The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia puts under supervision the progress of investigation of a probe into shooting at a police officer in Trans-Baikal Territory

On September 9, 2021 in the village of Smolenka, Chita District, Zabaikalsky Krai, an unknown man made a shot at a police officer who was driving a squad car. The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Trans-Baikal Territory launched a probe into this matter under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia - encroachment on a life of a law enforcement officer.

According to investigators, police officers arrived on a call to a house in the village of Smolenka. At about 1 AM, a man approached a Gazelle police car and shot at the police driver with an unidentified weapon. The policeman was hospitalized and provided with medical assistance; his life is out of danger.

At present, investigators, together with police officers are conducting a complex of investigative actions and operational-investigative activities to establish all circumstances of the offense. The scene of the incident was inspected and forensic investigators from the Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia were sent to the scene to assist in locating and seizing traces and items that may be of value to the investigation.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed the head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Trans-Baikal Territory Rusanov Yu. S. to report on the performed investigative actions and measures taken in order to identify and detain the suspect.

The progress of investigation is under the supervision of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
