The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to examine the grounds for the detention of a Russian citizen in the Czech Republic

Today the media reported that a citizen of the Russian Federation was detained at Prague airport. According to the media, his detention may be related to his active participation in 2014 in the events of the reunification of the Crimean peninsula with Russia. An arrest warrant for the Russian citizen was issued by Ukraine, where he can be criminally prosecuted.

In connection with the inadmissibility of abuse of international legal mechanisms to prosecute persons for political reasons, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation instructed the Head of the Legal Support and International Cooperation Department Oleg Mikhailov in close cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry to thoroughly study the reasons and legal grounds for the detention of the Russian citizen in a foreign country.
