A man arrested, accused of using violence against a police officer in St Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Main Investigative Department is investigating a probe into an offence under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (violence against a representative of authority) against a man born in 1989.

According to the investigation, the accused, while intoxicated, drove at high speed through the centre of St Petersburg on 13 September 2021, grossly violating public order and traffic rules and filming all his actions on a live video camera. Traffic police officers stopped him on Nevsky Prospekt in order to stop the offences he was committing and ensure the safety of residents and visitors to the city. Further, in response to the legitimate demands of a police officer who was on duty to present documents for verification, the suspect tried to escape from the scene by jerking the car door, trying to close it, while holding the law enforcement officer's hand.

The man has been charged. At the request of the investigation, the court ruled to keep the accused in custody.

The progress of investigation is under supervision of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Previously the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin requested a report on the progress of investigation.
