A probe launched into shelling of Donbass civilian infrastructure with children inside

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to document the facts of criminal actions by Ukrainian soldiers committed against the civilian population of Donbass.

On September 21, 2021, servicemen of the Armed Forces and other Ukrainian military formations fired 120 mm mortars at the adjacent territory of the Yasinovatsky vocational school of railway transport and a boarding school for children with disabilities, located in the town of Yasinovataya. As a result of these illegal actions the buildings were damaged. At the same time, during the period of shelling, minor inmates were inside the above mentioned premises. Thanks to the actions of the teachers, the children were evacuated to the shelters and, fortunately, no one was injured.

Based on said facts, the Investigative Committee of Russia launched probes into an offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Russia (use of banned means and methods of warfare).

According to the investigation, by shelling a populated area, Ukrainian soldiers intended to kill or seriously injure an unlimited number of civilians living in the said area and not participating in the armed conflict. The Ukrainian military officers had violated Protocol on cease-fire in southeast of Ukraine and Memorandum to it, as well as provisions of the Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War and Additional Protocol II to it.

All circumstances of the incidents are being established and Ukrainian servicemen involved in the offences identified.
