In the Republic of Dagestan, a hotel owner detained under a probe into death of people in a fire

The Dagestan Republican Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues investigation of a probe under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of Russia (rendering of services that do not meet safety requirements entailing by negligence death of two or more persons) into death of two people in a fire.

According to investigators, the fire occurred on September 21, 2021 in one of the hotels in Khasavyurt, as a result of which two men died from burns, and six more people with burns and injuries of varying severity were hospitalized. Subsequently, another victim died in hospital. 

During the investigation of the criminal case, the 47-year-old hotel owner was detained on suspicion of committing this crime. The issue of charging him and choosing a preventive measure is being decided upon.

The cause and point of origin of the fire are currently being established, witnesses and victims are being questioned, forensic and fire-technical examinations have been appointed.

Upon instruction of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, the progress and results of the investigation were placed under supervision of the Central Office of the Committee.
