Sentence imposed over a probe into encroachment on a life of a law enforcement officer

The evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate over North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found by court to be sufficient to sentence Akhmed Imagozhev. He was found guilty of committing offenses under Part 2 of Article 205.5, Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia (participation in activities of an organization recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation and encroachment on a life of a law enforcement officer).

The investigation and the court established that Akhmed Imagozhev and Mikail Miziev voluntarily joined the international terrorist organization banned in Russia. Taking an active part in its activities, on December 31, 2019, Imagozhev and Miziev, armed with knives, in a Lada-Granta car, committed an attack on employees of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Ingushetia, who were near the traffic police post at the entrance to the city of Magas, causing them various bodily injuries. Imagozhev and Miziev left the car and ran up to the patrol car, which was being driven by a traffic police inspector from the Magas City Department of Internal Affairs, and dragged him out of the car and stabbed him multiple times, from which he died on the spot. Officers of the Road Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Ingushetia who arrived on the scene used service weapons and suppressed the actions of the attackers. Miziev died of his wounds on the spot, and Imagozhev was taken to a medical facility with multiple wounds.

The court sentenced Imagojev to 27 years imprisonment, with the first five years to be served in prison and the rest in a strict regime penal colony with restriction of liberty for 1 year.

The probe into Miziev was terminated due to his death.
