The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol finished investigation of a probe into five residents of the Republic of Crimea accused of committing an offense under Part 3 of Article 258.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (illegal harvesting, transportation and storage of especially valuable aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation).
The investigation established that in January-February 2021, the inhabitants of the Republic of Crimea agreed to carry out illegal extraction, transportation and storage of especially valuable aquatic biological resources belonging to the species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation, namely, fish of the family sturgeon in the amount of 72 specimens, which they subsequently planned to sell and receive material profit.
During the operational-search activities carried out by officers of the Customs Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea, the suspects were detained. At present, the investigation of the probe has been completed. Materials were sent to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment and further referral of the case to court.
