The Investigative Committee of Russia presents the book "The Crime of the Century. Investigative Materials", narrating about the investigation of the murder of the Tzar's family

The Investigative Committee of Russia has prepared a book telling about the investigation into the murder of the royal family, which contains unique materials from the investigation and historical documents related to the death of the Russian Emperor Nicholas II, his family and their entourage.

The execution of the imperial family is still one of the most mysterious and controversial crimes of the 20th century. However, the events of a century ago are presented for the first time in a three-volume edition based strictly on documentary evidence and reliable archival sources. In chronological order, episode after episode, the book describes the tragic events associated with the murder of the royal family and the concealment of their remains.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia A.I. Bastrykin noted: “The general set of documents used in this publication encompassed archival collections of different nationalities and different status; moreover, new, previously unpublished documents were found”.

The first volume of the book, which can already be found on the website of the Investigative Committee, has become a documented reflection of the historical fact. Two more volumes are devoted to the investigative work of almost a century ago (1918-1924), carried out in the beginning of the 90s, when this fact was re-examined, as well as investigation at the present stage. The pages of the book reflect the current results of the investigation in the criminal case, resumed by the Investigative Committee of Russia in the fall of 2015, which managed to recreate an objective picture of those distant days and fill in the previously existing gaps. After all, modern science and the possibilities of expert research of the 21st century allow us to delve into the essence of tragic events in more detail and deeply, impartially understand what happened and draw well-grounded conclusions. Scientific and technological progress has made it possible to conduct unique forensic examinations, including medical forensic (anthropological) examinations. An important role was played by the work of cartographers, thanks to which 3D models of the execution room and the schemes of the Koptyakovskaya road were recreated. Photos, archives, diaries, memoirs, audio recordings - all this formed the basis of the publication.

This book is a large joint work of investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia, scientists, experts, other specialists and researchers of different directions. It most fully and reliably presents information about the investigation of a century-old crime, which turned Russian history, changed the state structure and order.
