The 384 military investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code (violation of safety rules of air transport movement and operation, resulting in death of two or more persons by negligence).

According to investigators, today around 9 am on takeoff from the airfield located near the town of Menzelinsk of Menzelinsk district of the Republic of Tatarstan, the plane L-410 had an emergency situation, as a result of which it made a hard landing. At the time of the tragedy, there were 20 parachutists and 2 crew members on board.

By 12:00 a.m., there are 16 people dead as a result of the accident. Survivors are in medical facilities where they are given all necessary assistance.

Criminal investigators of the Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Central Military District were involved in the inspection of the scene. Pre-flight documentation is being confiscated, witnesses of the tragedy are being interrogated and other investigative activities are underway to determine all the circumstances of the incident.
