The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia requests a report on investigation into a man who came to the checkpoint of a police department with a firearm

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed the Moscow Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia to report on the progress of investigation into a criminal case against a man who came to the police department in Moscow with a firearm.

According to investigators, in the evening of October 12, 2021 the man, being in a state of intoxication, entered the checkpoint of the Department of Internal Affairs in the Preobrazhenskoye district of Moscow and during the communication with police officers pointed a firearm in their direction. His actions were promptly suppressed by law enforcement officers and he was neutralized.

The criminal case was initiated under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia (encroachment on a life of law enforcement officers). The defendant has already been charged and the issue of a preventive measure for him is being decided upon.

During the interrogation, the man explained that he wanted to end his life, believing that the police officers would open fire on him. A suicide note was also found with him. A comprehensive psychiatric examination will be appointed to assess the mental state of the accused.

The progress of the criminal investigation is under supervision of the Central Office of the Committee.
