The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to conduct a repeated comprehensive examination in the criminal case of the death of a man in the Leningrad Region

As previously reported, on the instructions of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia after the reception of citizens, the criminal case into the death of a man in a private house in the Leningrad Region was transferred to the Central Office of the Committee for the most complete and prompt investigation.

According to investigators, in October 2020, a man with his son came to his country house in the village of Khyazelki in Vsevolozhsk district of Leningrad region. The victim turned on the gas boiler to heat the house and later lost consciousness and died before the ambulance arrived, while his 14-year-old son was taken to the hospital with a diagnosis of carbon dioxide poisoning.

After studying the materials of this criminal case in the central office, it turned out that the results of the examination on it were received on July 1, 2021. According to these results, the deceased man could not have been poisoned as a result of the concentration of gas formed during the reverse draft in the chimney due to improper installation of the chimney pipe. For the onset of the existing concentration of carbon monoxide in the body, he needed to be in the house for about 20 days. Based on this, it follows that there was a third-party source of carbon monoxide, the presence of which led to such a high concentration of the substance in the body of the deceased.

In this situation, the investigator of the Vsevolozhsk Investigative Department Vladislav Megrelov, who was in charge of the criminal case, for a long time continued to regard the incident solely as an accident, ignoring the conclusions of the examination and not giving them an assessment.

Taking into account these data, in addition to the previously appointed official check, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to conduct a procedural check.

Also, in the criminal case, a repeated comprehensive examination was appointed, which will be carried out by the Forensic Expert Center of the Investigative Committee of Russia with the involvement of experienced specialists.
