Sentence imposed over wounding of a Donetsk civilian by Ukrainian servicemen

Ignoring the agreements reached, the Ukrainian military continues to shell populated areas and civilian infrastructure in Donbass. The Investigative Committee of Russia registered another such fact.

According to the investigation, on October 22, 2021, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a massive attack with heavy weapons, using grenade launchers and 120 mm mortars on residential houses and civilian infrastructure in the Petrovsky and Kirovsky districts of Donetsk. A 37-year-old man was injured when a shell hit in the Petrovsky district, and in the Kirovsky district an electrical substation was damaged, resulting in the blackout of more than 1,300 homes.

Upon this fact a probe was launched into an offence under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Russia (use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare, banned by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

By shelling a populated area, Ukrainian soldiers intended to kill or seriously injure an unlimited number of civilians living in southeastern Ukraine and not participating in the armed conflict. The Ukrainian military officers had violated Protocol on cease-fire in southeast of Ukraine and Memorandum to it, as well as provisions of the Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War and Additional Protocol II to it.

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues identifying officials involved in use of banned means and methods of warfare against Donbass civilians.
