Andrey Pivovarov to stand trial on charges of directing the activities of a foreign non-governmental organization deemed undesirable in the Russian Federation

The Krasnodar Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia completed an investigation into a criminal case against Andrey Pivovarov, accused of managing a foreign non-governmental organization recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation (Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code, as amended by Federal Law No 129-FZ of 23.05.2015).

According to investigators, between December 2019 and May 2021, Pivovarov led a foreign nongovernmental organization whose activities were recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation. During this period, the defendant repeatedly placed in the public domain information of a propagandistic nature in support of this organization. At the same time the defendant was repeatedly held administratively liable for participation in the activities of a foreign nongovernmental organization. In July of this year he was detained while trying to escape from the preliminary investigation authorities outside the country.

For the period of the preliminary investigation, at the request of the investigator the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the accused, which is still in force.

The investigation has collected sufficient evidence, and the criminal case with an approved indictment will soon be sent to court to be tried on the merits.
