The Tatarstan Republican Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues to investigate the criminal case initiated under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code (performance of works or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements). Today a criminal case was initiated against the 70-year-old owner of the apartment, which became the epicenter of the explosion, under Paragraph F of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (murder committed by publicly dangerous means).
As previously reported, on October 25, 2021 there was a gas-air mixture explosion in an apartment on the fourth floor of a residential building in Naberezhnye Chelny. As a result, five people were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity, including two minors born in 2004 and 2010, as well as the suspect. Subsequently, a 22-year-old woman died of her injuries in hospital.
It is now established that the owner of the apartment lived alone and was registered with a narcologist in connection with alcohol abuse. At the same time, in 2010 he refused to provide gas service, and a metal plug was installed on the gas line to the gas stove.
During an inspection of the scene, investigators concluded that the cause of the gas-air mixture explosion was the deliberate actions of the owner of the apartment. In the nearest future, the investigation intends to go to court with a motion to place the detainee in custody. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
