In March 2020, a TV report on one of the channels reported that the Road of Life museum, part of the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad, was being destroyed in the village of Kokkorevo, Vsevolozhsky District. It was reported that the museum building and exhibit were falling into disrepair. There are no conditions for the storage of museum exhibits, which need professional care. Investigators of the Leningrad Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, having checked all the information in the course of procedural verification on behalf of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, saw signs of an offense and opened a criminal case under Article 243.1 of the Criminal Code (violation of the preservation and use of cultural heritage sites of historical and cultural monuments of the peoples of the Russian Federation). The charges were brought against Sergei Zvonkov, chairman of the board of the Vsevolozhsk District Society of Hunters and Fishermen. Despite the evidence gathered by the investigation, the leadership of the Leningrad Oblast Prosecutor's Office and subsequently the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia did not approve the indictment in the criminal case for submission to court.
Later the Leningrad Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia terminated the criminal case. The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia reversed this decision and instructed the head of the Leningrad Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia S. T. Sazin to thoroughly investigate the criminal case and establish the circumstances of the possible loss of the exhibits, which had been collected through the efforts of citizens.
In addition, in the near future Alexander Bastrykin intends to personally visit the museum "Road of Life" during his working trip.
