In the Republic of Dagestan, a criminal case was initiated into murder of a mosque imam and wounding of his son and brother

The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking in weapons), Part 2 of Article 105 (murder), Paragraph F of Part 2 of Article 105 (murder committed using a publicly dangerous method) and Part 3 of Article 30, Paragraphs A, F of Part 2 of Article 105 (attempted murder of two or more persons committed by publicly dangerous means).  

According to investigators, today in the village of Ameterkmakhi in the Republic of Dagestan there was a conflict over a land dispute between a 62-year-old resident of the village and the imam of the mosque, which has not been resolved for a long time. When the man arrived at the house of the victim's mother, he opened fire with a firearm, killing the imam and injuring two other people. In order to stop the further illegal actions of the shooter, being wounded, the son of the deceased imam countered and stabbed the shooter with a knife. The attacker subsequently died of the stab wound.

The brother and the son of the imam of the mosque with various gunshot wounds were taken to Akushinsk Central Regional Hospital, both are in the intensive care unit.

Investigators and criminalists of the Investigative Committee of Russia and law enforcement officers are working at the site. All circumstances of the incident are being established.

The criminal investigation is ongoing.
