The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to transfer to the Central Office a criminal case into destruction of the people’s museum “Road of Life”

Having analyzed all the data obtained during the working visit to the Leningrad Region, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to transfer the criminal case initiated under Article 243.1 of the Criminal Code for violation of the preservation and use of cultural heritage sites of historical and cultural peoples of the Russian Federation in the functioning of the people's museum "The Road of Life" to the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

This criminal case was processed by the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Leningrad Region. The investigation found that for a long time the preservation of the museum building was not maintained, and a number of structural changes were made without the necessary approvals. After non-approval of the indictment by the supervisory authority, the case was terminated. But later the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia reversed that decision and instructed to resume the investigation.

As part of the further investigation Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Main Investigative Department to verify the information about the termination of the activities of 19 museums in the Leningrad Region. The Cultural Center of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the St. Petersburg Academy and the St. Petersburg Cadet Corps of the Investigative Committee were ordered to take patronage of the people's museum "The Road of Life" and provide the necessary assistance in its restoration.
