Investigators have detained the mine director, 47, his first deputy, 59, and site manager, 36, as part of an investigation into a crime under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities that resulted in the death of two or more people by negligence).
On 25 November this year it was reported that there was smoke in a mine working of the Listvyazhnaya Mine. According to preliminary reports, 11 workers were killed. To date, there is no information about 35 workers at the mine. Search and rescue work was suspended due to dangerous gas concentrations at the site.
Initial investigations have established that the detainees violated industrial safety requirements at hazardous production facilities. As a result, a gas dynamic event occurred. The ventilation drift in section 4 started to smoke, as a result of which the workers in the working face suffocated.
At present, investigations are under way with the detainees; they will be charged in the near future, and the issue of placing them in custody is being decided upon.
Required investigative activities aimed to establish circumstances of the incident is being carried out. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
