The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed to report on the progress of the criminal investigation into the incident with the plane that made an emergency landing in Irkutsk

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee instructed the head of the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee Alexanderov A. A. to report on the progress of the criminal investigation initiated under Article 238 of the Criminal Code and to conduct an initial inquiry under Article 263 of the Criminal Code into the accident with the plane that made an emergency landing at the airport in Irkutsk.

Earlier it was reported that on December 2, 2021 an Airbus 321 flying from Magadan to Novosibirsk made an emergency landing at an airfield in Irkutsk. There were 202 passengers on board, including three children and seven crew members. No one was injured as a result of the incident. It was found that during the ascent, when the aircraft took off from Magadan airport, the crew noticed a strong icing of the aircraft. In the course of the flight the instruments of speed and altitude indicators failed, as a result of which the commander of the aircraft decided to land.

A number of investigative actions have been conducted in the criminal case: the aircraft has been examined, wipes from various parts of the aircraft have been seized, samples of icing fluid have been seized from the vehicles used to process the aircraft at Magadan airport, samples of fuel used to fuel the aircraft were also seized, and chemical examinations have been assigned. In addition, the technical documentation of the aircraft was requested, as well as information about the meteorological weather forecast for the route of the aircraft. The aircraft technicians who treated the plane with a special anti-icing fluid are being interrogated, and other investigative actions are underway.

On the instructions of the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the progress of the criminal investigation and the results of the preliminary investigation are under supervision of the Central Office of the agency.
