Criminal case on injury of children in road accident in Yaroslavl region transferred to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia

The criminal case under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code (provision of services not meeting safety requirements) on the injuries of young athletes in a traffic accident in Yaroslavl region, was referred for full and comprehensive investigation to the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation due to the high profile of the accident and the number of injured children.

According to investigators, a traffic accident involving a bus carrying children occurred near the village of Debolovskoye in Rostov district in the morning of 18 December 2021. The bus carrying 13 athletes aged from 8 to 16, five adults and the driver was on its way from Rostov, Yaroslavl Region, to Solnechnogorsk. During the trip, the bus collided with logs on the roadway that had fallen from the trailer of the KAMAZ timber truck ahead. According to preliminary information, the driver and 11 minor passengers required medical assistance.

Investigators and forensic specialists from the Investigative Committee of Russia are working at the scene. Witnesses to the incident are being identified. Necessary forensic examinations are being arranged to determine, among other things, the severity of injury to the health of all passengers. 

Investigators will check the activities of the individual entrepreneur who transported the children and the equipment of the vehicle for compliance with the safety requirements for the transportation. The investigation will comprehensively examine the causes and conditions that led to the incident and make a legal assessment of the actions (or inaction) of the carrier and the officials, including the supervisory authorities responsible for the safety of children.
