Criminal Case on Officials' Negligence Initiated in Connection with a Missing Child in Novgorod Oblast

During the investigation of the criminal case on the missing girl born in 2020 in the town of Kholm, Novgorod Oblast, the investigators have found that the child's family was registered with the prevention system authorities. Their seven children were previously put in a social institution due to inadequate living conditions. At the same time, the girl born in 2020 was left with the family; her placement in a specialized institution was not considered. The investigative authorities of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Novgorod Oblast have initiated a criminal case on negligence (Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code) on the part of officials working at the Education Committee of the Kholm Municipal District Administration.

Currently, investigative actions are underway to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. Criminologists of the central office of the IC of Russia continue to work on the site. According to the preliminary conclusion, the bone fragments found in the stove are not human. The search for the minor continues.

As previously reported, on January 25, 2022, the authorities were notified that a girl born in 2020 had gone missing in the town of Kholm, Novgorod Oblast. As the Chairman of the IC of Russia ordered, the criminal case on a possible criminal offense under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of a minor) will be transferred to the central office. The mother and her cohabitee have been detained.
