Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Instructs to Monitor Criminal Investigation of Child Torture in Omsk Oblast

The investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Omsk Oblast launched an investigation into an offence under Clause D, Part 2, Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture) over admission to hospital of a nine-month-old infant with bodily injuries.

The probe revealed implication in the crime of the boy’s mother cohabitee, 32. The suspect was detained and the investigative authorities plan to take him into custody.

According to the police investigation, from 26 January to 1 February 2022, the suspect, in the absence of the infant’s mother, repeatedly punched the boy in the head, grabbed him by the legs, turned him upside down and shook him in order to punish and impose physical suffering on the minor who was knowingly in a helpless condition. As a result of the suspect’s criminal actions, the boy suffered bodily injuries.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin ordered S. V. Markovichenko, Acting Head of the Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for Omsk Oblast, to report on the investigation progress and the Central Office of the IC to monitor the case. Besides, the Chairman of the IC instructed to review actions (omission) of the child protective services.
