Person Accused of Committing Terrorist Attacks in Moscow Metro in 2010 Sentenced

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict Magomed Nurov. He has been found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 209, Part 2 of Article 210, Paragraph “b” of Part 3 of Article 205, Part 3 of Article 223 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in criminal gang (band) activity; committing terrorist acts at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations of the Moscow Metro; illegal manufacture of explosives).

Investigating the terrorist acts committed on March 29, 2010, at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury stations of the Moscow Metro, in which 39 people had been killed, investigators established the involvement of the members of Novokosteksky Jamaat, a criminal gang (band) that was part of the Caucasus Emirate criminal organization (the organization is prohibited in Russia by a court decision). During counterterrorism operations in 2010–2013, seven identified members of this gang were killed while resisting arrest.

As a result of further investigation to identify all persons involved in the bombings, one more gang member, Magomed Nurov, was identified. He was detained and taken into custody. The investigation found that Nurov voluntarily joined the gang, swore an oath to its leader, took an active part in its activities, participated in the planning and preparation of crimes committed, served as a liaison and driver for the transportation of gang members, and after the terrorist acts were committed, took measures to conceal the actual perpetrators.

The court has sentenced Nurov to life imprisonment.

Implementing the principle of the inevitability of punishment, the investigators of the IC of Russia, with the operational support of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, continue to identify all participants and accomplices of the gang.
