Chairman of IC of Russia Orders to Report on Progress of Investigation of Criminal Case of Murder of Children in Irkutsk Oblast

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia A. I. Bastrykin has instructed Head of the Investigative Department of the IC of Russia for Irkutsk Oblast A. V. Sitnikov to report on the initial investigative actions in the criminal case on the murder of two children (Paragraphs A, C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code).

On the evening of February 5, a fire broke out in one of the houses in the village of Timiryazeva, Kachugsky District. In the course of extinguishing the fire, the bodies of children aged 1 and 4 years were found by the EMRCOM staff. An investigative team consisting of the most experienced investigators and forensic experts of the regional IC of Russia immediately arrived at the place of occurrence. The investigators found that a 28-year-old man living in the above-mentioned house was involved in the fire. According to the investigators, the man, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, on the grounds of jealousy, poured flammable liquid on his cohabitee and young children and then committed arson. As a result, two children died at the place of occurrence. The woman and another child were taken to the hospital with thermal burns of varying severity. The suspect has been detained, the investigators petition for the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention.

In addition, the investigators will give a legal evaluation of the actions (inaction) of the prevention system officials within a criminal case under Article 293 of the Criminal Code (negligence).

As ordered by the Chairman of the IC of Russia, the progress and results of the investigation were monitored by the Central Office of the department.
