Chairman of the Investigative Committee Joins Interdepartmental Commission of Security Council of Russian Federation on Improving State Migration Policy

By the decision of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin has been included in the Interdepartmental Commission of the Security Council of the Russian Federation on Improving the State Migration Policy.

The Interdepartmental Commission was established to ensure the national security of the Russian Federation in the field of migration and to regulate migration processes to promote the socio-economic development of the country. The commission is entrusted with analyzing the migration situation, identifying internal and external national security threats, preparing proposals and recommendations for the Security Council in the field of migration, participating in the development and implementation of strategic planning, areas for improving legal regulation, and a number of others spheres.

Earlier, Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin noted that illegal actions of migrant workers played an increasingly prominent role among threats to internal stability. Grave violations of law and order involving migrant workers have become more frequent, extremist sentiments are developing, and the level of terrorist danger is growing. Mass brawls involving migrant workers arriving from the Central Asian region have been registered in a number of cities. Illegal migration also contributes to these circumstances.

Speaking about the increasing migrant workers' aggression, caused, in particular, by the maladaptation of the newcomers to the Russian mentality, the head of the department indicated the need for a symmetrical approach to prevention measures, about implementing a set of additional measures to reinforce the rule of law in the area, and about improving existing mechanisms to counter violations of migration legislation and ethnic crime.
