Перед судом предстанет еще один обвиняемый по уголовному делу о нападении на псковских десантников

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasian Federal District has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a resident of the Chechen Republic German Arbinin. He is accused of committing a crime under Article 317 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the life of military personnel).

According to the investigators, on February 29, 2000, Arbinin, as part of a united armed gang under the leadership of Basayev and Khattab, took part in an attack on servicemen of the 6th Company of the 104th Regiment of the 76th Pskov Division of the Russian Airborne Forces, which took place in a mountainous-wooded area near the village of Ulus-Kert, Shatoysky District, Chechen Republic. The attack was carried out from three sides; taking up the position, Arbinin fired aimed shots at the servicemen from a Kalashnikov assault rifle. 84 servicemen were killed, and four servicemen suffered injuries of varying severity in the attack, which lasted until the morning of March 1.

The investigators collected the evidence base sufficient to approve the indictment and file the criminal case against Arbinin for trial.

Earlier, 15 participants of the clash, including a citizen of Ukraine Alexander Malofeev – a member of the extremist organization UNA-UNSO banned in Russia – were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.

Implementing the inevitability of punishment principle, the investigators, with the operational support of the FSB of Russia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, continue to identify the participants of the attack, who hide from law enforcement agencies.
