On February 14, 2022, two boys aged 14 and 16 were hospitalized with gunshot wounds of the lower extremities. Following this incident, investigative authorities of the Investigative Department of the IC of Russia in the Republic of Buryatia initiated a criminal case on a possible crime under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder). The 29-year-old stepfather of the injured children was detained on suspicion of committing this crime.

According to the investigators, the suspect lived in the village of Oer, Dzhidinsky District, the Republic of Buryatia together with a cohabitee and her two minor sons. On February 13, 2022, he, being in a state of alcohol intoxication, fired a shot at the 16-year-old son of his cohabitee in the house yard during an argument. The shot charge hit the victim's legs. At that moment, the woman grabbed the gun and tried to pry it out of the cohabitee's hands. Her younger son came to her aid. During the struggle, the suspect fired another shot, which wounded the second 14-year-old boy's legs. After that, the man fled the scene, but was soon detained by police officers. The wounded children received the necessary medical care.

The Chairman of the IC of Russia instructed Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Buryatia V. V. Sukhorukov to report on the situation. The course of the investigation is monitored by the Central Office of the IC.
