Chairman of the IC of Russia Orders to Report on Progress of Investigation into Criminal Cases on Firing at Russian Military

On February 24, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired from the territory of the south-east of Ukraine at the Russian civilian cargo ship SGV Flot, which was en route to the seaport of Rostov-on-Don through the Sea of Azov. As a result of the incident, the ore and oil carrier sustained damage to the aft part, which caused the steering to fail. One crew member was injured.

Following these facts, the investigators of the main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia initiated criminal cases on the grounds of possible crimes under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraphs A, D, G of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder of two or more persons).

On February 26, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while on Ukrainian territory, fired at a military unit located near the village of Dolzhanskaya, Yeisky District, Krasnodar Krai, thereby encroaching on the lives of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and also destroying two mobile radar stations.
As a result of the criminal actions, three servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation sustained injuries of varying severity, major damage was caused to the military property of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Following this incident, the MID of the IC of Russia initiated criminal cases on possible crimes under Article 317 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer), Part 2 of Article 346 of the Criminal Code (intentional destruction or damage to military property, which entailed grave consequences).

Chairman of the IC of Russia Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin instructed the investigators of the MID of the IC of Russia to provide a detailed report on the progress of the investigation into criminal cases initiated following these events.
