Chairman of the IC of Russia Instructs to Initiate Criminal Case on Illegal Criminal Prosecution of Russian Cultural Figures in Ukraine

In recent days, media outlets have published a number of materials with reference to Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova, who reported on initiation of several criminal cases against Russian cultural figures.

Thus, on social networks, she reported about the criminal prosecution and arrest in absentia of a number of cultural figures from the Russian Federation within the case on encroachment on the territorial integrity of the country.

At the same time, it is quite obvious that the attempt to hold Russian citizens criminally liable and accuse them of committing a particularly serious crime is absolutely groundless and illegal.

Taking into account the above, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation instructed the Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia to initiate a criminal case against officials of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine on a possible crime under Article 299 of the Criminal Code (holding an obviously innocent person criminally liable or illegal initiation of a criminal case) and Article 301 of the Criminal Code (illegal detention, arrest or holding in custody), as well as to conduct investigative actions aimed at obtaining and documenting evidence within the criminal case.
