Another Two Criminal Cases Initiated on Instances of Firing at Civilians by Ukrainian Nationalists

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation initiated another two criminal cases in connection with massive shelling of settlements of Donbass by Ukrainian troops. Their actions show signs of a crime under Article 356 of the Criminal Code (ill-treatment of civilians, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict).

According to the investigators, from March 9 to March 11, 2022, a number of settlements of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and civil infrastructure facilities attacked by Ukrainian Nazi radicals. As a result of shell hits and explosions, 5 civilian residents of the republics were injured. In the DPR and LPR, 42 residential and administrative buildings were damaged, including facilities of the Stakhanov Mechanical Repair Plant.

The Ukrainian nationalists' illegal actions violate the norms of international law, including the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN General Assembly, Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and additional protocols thereto, and Convention (IV) respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land and its annex.

The work on collecting evidence of the commission of war crimes against civilians by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and nationalist battalions continues.
