Criminal Case Initiated on Desecration of Symbol of Russian Military Glory in Slovakia

At a time undetermined by the investigators, but no later than March 3, 2022, perpetrators painted over the objects of the Slavin military memorial complex, which perpetuates the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland and its interests during the Great Patriotic War, with paint of different colors. The abovementioned complex in the city of Bratislava of the Slovak Republic is located at the burial place of 6,845 Soviet soldiers who died during the Second World War while liberating the city from Nazi invaders. 

Following this incident, the Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal case on a possible crime under Paragraphs A, B of Part 2 of Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code (damage to a memorial object outside of the Russian Federation, perpetuating the memory of those who died in the defense of the Fatherland during the Great Patriotic War, committed by a group of persons).

These actions were directed against the interests of Russia in the field of preserving the historical memory of the USSR efforts during the Second World War and its decisive role in the victory over fascism.

The investigators implements all the available powers to establish the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved in this crime.
