Two More Criminal Cases Have Been Initiated on the Facts of Massive Shelling of Civilians by Ukrainian Nationalists

In connection with the criminal actions of the Ukrainian military in Donbas, the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two more criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

In the period from March 15 to March 16, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high damaging properties. The shelling affected civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Yasinovataya, Volnovakha and Mariupol of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The nature of the shelling suggests the Ukrainian military acted deliberately against civilians.

A civilian was injured during the shelling of Petrovsky Raion of the city of Donetsk. About ten residential buildings, 48 transformer substations were damaged, several boiler facilities were de-energized.

Two residential buildings were damaged and a woman was also wounded in Gorlovka as a result of hits and explosions of shells.

The town of Yasinovataya suffered the most severe damage. The rescue unit building, water supply facilities, a pumping station, gas pipelines in several streets, and 12 residential buildings were damaged. A local non-combatant was killed.  Previously unknown facts of wounding three civilian people on March 3 and 7 in the cities of Volnovakha and Mariupol were also revealed.

The investigation also recorded a number of criminal actions of the Ukrainian military on the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic. On March 15-16, they carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy weapons on civilian infrastructure near the state border of the Lugansk People’s Republic and Ukraine.

The shelling killed a civilian in the town of Frunze, Slavyanoserbsky Raion. The buildings of a number of agricultural enterprises and five residential buildings were damaged.

Artillery strikes damaged six residential buildings in Stakhanov, Irmino and Kirovsk. The IC of Russia continues to identify officials from among the Ukrainian military involved in these crimes against the peace and security of mankind.
