Two More Criminal Cases Have Been Initiated on the Facts of Massive Shelling by Ukrainian Nationalists Killing and Injuring Civilians in Donbass

In connection with the criminal actions of the Ukrainian military in Donbas, the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two more criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population, the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, in the period of March 19-20, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high destructive properties of civilian infrastructure objects that are not military targets in the cities of Pervomaysk, Stakhanov, Irmino, Lugansk People's Republic, where industrial facilities and residential buildings were damaged.

The shelling of the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Makeevka, Dokuchaevsk, Yasinovataya and Mariupol and the towns of Yelenovka, Novotroitskoye of the Donetsk People's Republic killed one civilian and injured 12 civilians, and also damaged civilian infrastructure facilities, including kindergarten buildings.

The actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian nationalists against the civilian population of the DPR and LPR are a serious violation of international law. The IC of Russia will continue to establish all the facts of the criminal behavior of the Ukrainian military in order to further hold them accountable.
