The Investigative Committee of Russia Initiates Another Two Criminal Cases on Numerous Instances of Shelling of Settlements in Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics

In connection with Ukrainian troops' criminal actions against Donbass residents, the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated two more criminal cases on a possible crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of civilians, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict).

Thus, on March 21, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks using highly destructive heavy weapons against civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk, Yasinovataya, Mariupol, in Novoazovsky District, and in Volnovakhsky Districts of the Donetsk People's Republic.

As a result of shell hits and explosions, 5 civilians not involved in the armed conflict were killed, another 5 were injured. The city dental clinic, industrial premises and buildings of the machine-building plant in Donetsk were damaged, as well as a school in Yasinovataya, the platform of the Yasinovataya railway station, residential buildings, maintenance facilities and cars.

In addition, 15 civilians, including one minor, applied for medical assistance; they were injured from March 4 to 21, 2022 in the city of Mariupol of the Donetsk People's Republic.

Also, on March 21, 2022, settlements of the Lugansk People's Republic – the cities of Pervomaisk, Kirovsk, Bryanka, the urban settlement of Donetsky, and the villages of Golubovskoye and Krivorozhye – were subjected to repeated massive shelling attacks.

Due to shell hits and explosions, residential buildings, maintenance facilities, buildings, and substation power lines were damaged, as a result of which the village of Golubovskoye with 772 users was completely cut from electricity supply.

School buildings were damaged in the city of Bryanka and the village of Krivorozhye, Slavyanoserbsky District, Lugansk People's Republic.

In the city of Shchastye of the Lugansk People's Republic, an employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the LPR was injured while performing engineering and sapping activities when a booby trap, set the troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations, exploded.

The Investigative Committee will continue to document the evidence of crimes committed against the civilian population of Donbass and to identify persons from the Ukrainian military formations involved in committing them.
