Chairman of the IC of Russia Takes Part in the Meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation

Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, took part in a meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation chaired by Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. The event was attended by federal ministers, heads of agencies and departments. The meeting discussed the trends in the development of the criminal situation in the Russian Federation.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the IC of Russia A.I. Bastrykin noted that the total number of crimes registered in the country in 2021 decreased by 1.9% year-on-year (a total of 2 million crimes were recorded). At the same time, he stressed the need to intensify work in a number of areas, including countering crimes committed with information technology and extremist ones.

The Chairman also touched upon the topic related to the events in Donbass and Ukraine. He stressed that the issues of documenting the criminal activities of the Ukrainian military and law enforcement agencies, as well as protecting the rights of individuals, including minors, are of paramount importance. The head of the IC noted that officers of the Investigative Committee in various regions hosting refugees continue to provide them with support. Particular attention is paid to the issues of accommodation, adaptation and selection of educational institutions for orphans who arrived from Donbass.

The Chairman of the IC of Russia focused on the need to effectively counteract cyber attacks, as well as various threats to Russian citizens that are expressed in the information field: both on social networks and in various types of media. Along with this, it is necessary to organize targeted work to identify and suppress protest movements, respond to any provocations aimed at discrediting Russia, distorting the goals, progress and results of the special military operation being carried out in Ukraine.

Dwelling upon this topic, A.I. Bastrykin spoke about the importance of dealing with school and university students in modern conditions, noting that it is necessary to explain in detail to children and teenagers the objective picture of what is happening, teach them to analyze sources of information and be able to distinguish fake news from reliable information. At the same time, the participation of young people in patriotic events is still important. In this regard, the head of the IC noted the need for participation of relevant ministries – the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation – in these processes.
