New Criminal Cases Initiated on Instances of Shelling of DPR and LPR by Ukrainian Military Formations

The Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia continues to document criminal actions of Ukrainian nationalists who continue massive shelling of settlements in the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics. Following these incidents, the investigators initiated 2 more criminal cases on a possible crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of civilians, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict).

According to the investigators, from March 23 to March 25, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations carried out obviously criminal orders of higher commanders and officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and launched massive precise artillery and mortar attacks using highly destructive heavy weapons against civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk, Makeyevka, Dokuchaievsk, Yasinovataya, Volnovakha, and Mariupol, as well as in the settlement of Verkhnetoretskoye of the Donetsk People's Republic.

As a result of the shelling, 5 civilians not participating in the armed conflict were killed, about 70 civilians were injured, including 1 infant and 4 minors.

In addition, in the city of Yasinovataya, over 50 residential buildings, maintenance facilities, and the building of the morgue of the central district hospital sustained damage of various degrees.

In addition, from March 22 to March 25, 2022, civilian infrastructure facilities were shelled in a number of settlements of the Lugansk People's Republic – the cities of Pervomaisk, Rubezhnoye, Zolotoye-5, the urban settlement of Kalinovo, and the village of Stepnoye.

In the massive shelling, one civilian died and two were wounded, including a minor teenager.

In addition, residential buildings and maintenance facilities of settlements in the republic sustained damage of in various degrees; a substation building was also damaged.

The Investigative Committee continues its work to identify all persons involved in perpetrating crimes against the civilian population of Donbass and to bring them to justice.
