Criminal Case Initiated on Shelling of DPR Settlements by Ukrainian Troops

The Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia continues to document Ukrainian nationalists' crimes against the civilian population of the Donetsk People's Republic. Following another massive shelling, the investigators initiated another criminal case on a possible crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of civilians, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict).

According to the investigators, in the period from March 29 to March 30, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations, while staying on the territory under their control, carried out deliberately criminal orders of higher commanders and officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine with the aim of killing in a generally dangerous way and causing serious bodily harm to an unlimited number of civilians living in the Donetsk People's Republic for reasons of political and ideological hatred and enmity related to the withdrawal of the DPR from Ukraine: they mounted massive precision artillery and mortar attacks using highly destructive heavy weapons against civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Yasinovataya, Dokuchaievsk, and Mariupol, as well as settlements of Sartana, Kalmiussky District, and Pavlovka, Maryinsky District, of the Donetsk People's Republic.

Acting intentionally, the Ukrainian troops again violated the provisions of the Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War (Geneva, 12.08.1949) and Additional Protocol II thereto. As a result of their criminal actions, a number of residential buildings, maintenance facilities, and the building of the republican market were damaged in the settlements. Five civilians not involved in the armed conflict suffered injuries of varying severity. Another 9 people were killed; a woman born in 1936 was among the nationalists' victims.

The Ukrainian nationalists used a Tochka-U tactical missile system to open precision fire at a house on Pintera Street, Kirovsky District, Donetsk. As a result of the attack, one person was killed, while several residents, including children, were injured. Also, as a result of a shell hit and explosion at the abovementioned address, at least 20 civilians suffered injuries of varying severity. In addition, three civilians who were injured as a result of shelling of Mariupol and Sartana from March 21 to 28 died in medical facilities of the Donetsk People's Republic. 28 civilians, including a minor, applied for medical assistance to healthcare facilities of the Donetsk People's Republic. These people suffered injuries of varying severity during the shelling that the Ukrainian militants performed from March 2 to 28 against the cities of Mariupol and Donetsk, as well as the village of Pavlovka, Maryinsky District, the DPR.

The Investigative Committee of Russia works on identifying Ukrainian nationalist officials involved in these crimes against the peace and security of mankind.
