The Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia continues to record the crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalists against the civilian population of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Based on the facts of new massive attacks, two more criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of crimes under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population; the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, in the period from April 1 to 2, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations, following the deliberately criminal orders of higher commanders and officials, carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks from heavy types of weapons with high damaging properties, against civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk, Gorlovka, Yenakiyevo and Mariupol, as well as the town of Aleksandrovka, Maryinsky Raion, the Donetsk People’s Republic, killing civilians and damaging buildings and facilities. As a result of the shelling of the city of Mariupol, 14 people were killed, 13 people were injured of varying severity. In addition, a civilian born in 1991, who had been injured as a result of shelling in the city of Mariupol on March 31, 2022, died in a medical institution of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The facts of the death of two civilians as a result of targeted shelling on March 30, 2022 with the Tochka-U tactical missile system in Kirovsky Raion of Donetsk have also been established. In the period from March 10 to March 28, eight civilians turned for medical help to healthcare institutions of the Donetsk People’s Republic, also as a result of the shelling of Mariupol.

In the same period, the territories of the Lugansk People’s Republic were shelled under similar circumstances: the city of Pervomaisk and the town of Donetsky, Kirovsky Raion. The shelling damaged residential buildings, facilities and power lines.

The Investigative Committee of Russia is identifying officials from among Ukrainian nationalist involved in these crimes against the peace and security of mankind.
