The IC of Russia Initiates New Criminal Cases on Shelling of Settlements in DPR and LPR by Ukrainian Security Forces

The Main Investigative Department of the IC of Russia continues to document crimes committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and nationalists against the civilian population of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

Following another massive shelling, the investigators initiated another two criminal cases on a possible crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of civilians, use of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict).

According to the investigators, in the Lugansk People's Republic, in the period from April 2 to April 3, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations carried out massive precision artillery and mortar attacks using heavy weapons in the cities of Pervomaisk and Rubezhnoye, as well as in the settlement of Donetsky. As a result of the shelling, two female civilians were injured; one of them was injured during the evacuation of the civilian population and died of her wounds in a healthcare facility. In addition, residential buildings, a kindergarten building and maintenance facilities were damaged during the shelling.

In the Donetsk People's Republic, in the period from April 2 to April 3, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military formations fired highly destructive heavy weapons at civilian infrastructure facilities in the cities of Donetsk and Mariupol, as well as the settlements of Vasilievka, Alexandrovka, Volodarskoye, Novomayorskoye, and Sartana.

4 civilians were killed in the shelling; 27, including one minor, suffered injuries of varying severity. 10 civilians, including one minor, also applied to healthcare facilities of the DPR for medical help.

In addition, while being treated at a healthcare facility, two died of previous injuries. As a result of the shelling of the DPR, residential buildings, maintenance facilities, and a women's clinic were damaged.

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to identify Ukrainian nationalist officials and servicemen involved in these crimes against the peace and security of mankind.
