Criminal Cases Have Been Initiated Over New Attacks by the Ukrainian Military Against the Civilian Population of Donbass

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues operations to establish the facts of crimes committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units of Ukraine against the civilian population of Donbass. Based on the new facts, two more criminal cases have been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1, Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (ill-treatment of the civilian population; the use in an armed conflict of means and methods prohibited by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, from April 5 to April 6, 2022, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian military units carried out massive targeted artillery and mortar attacks in the Donetsk People’s Republic using heavy types of weapons with high damaging properties against infrastructure in the cities of Donetsk, Yasinovataya and Mariupol, as well as the towns of Aleksandrovka, Yakovlevka, Sakhanka, Kalinovka, Vladimirovka. In the Lugansk People’s Republic, the cities of Pervomaisk, Kirovsk, Irmino, as well as the towns of Kalinovo and Donetsky, were shelled.

The shelling killed six civilians and injured 43 people, including three minors. At the same time, two people were injured during the evacuation as a result of shelling in the city of Rubezhnoe, the Lugansk People’s Republic.

The shelling damaged 54 civilian infrastructure facilities, including the building of the Centrokuz plant at Nedelina Street, the building of the Kalinovskaya school, as well as other buildings and facilities of preschool institutions, residential buildings, a gas pipe and many other objects that are essential for ensuring the normal life of people.

Such actions by the Ukrainian military are war crimes. Persons involved in their commission will be held accountable under the current criminal procedure legislation.
